Poland implements final safeguard measures

Poland has finalised the scheme of the safeguard measures imposed on eight types of steel products. The safeguard measures will remain in force for two years, for expiry on the date when Poland joins the EU. The duties effective from March 8, 2003 range between 9% and 15%, i.e., lower than the initially introduced duties back in August, reaching 25% levels on certain goods. The duties will be applied once the allocated quotas are exceeded. Furthermore, the existing quota levels are increased by 5% under the framework of the new safeguard measures for all the product groups except for hot rolled, cold rolled and galvanised steel. Exact quota tonnages and duty rates will follow shortly.
