Polish government told European Union antitrust regulators last week that Mittal Steel should sell several plants in Poland before its bid for Arcelor is approved. Elzebieta Anders, a spokeswoman at the anti-monopoly office in Warsaw, commented that Mittal's Polish unit is already ’dominant' and that the combined company should be forced to sell Arcelor's Huta Warszawa steel mill in Warsaw and any other plants near the Polish border to avoid the monopolistic position of the combined company in Polish market.
