Poland and Russia in 'hot seat' over AD case

Poland and Russia are now in the ’hot seat' since the European Commission (EC) began an anti-dumping investigation on electrical sheet and strip imports from both countries. Sources report that Poland is furious since it has been working hard to come to an agreement with the Commission on proposals for restructuring its steel industry. A complaint was filed on March 26 by the European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries (EUROFER) which alleged injury to local industry in the EU. The EC concurs with EUROFER's claim that grain-oriented sheets and strips of silicon-electrical steel of up to widths of 500mm are causing injury to the market. Currently, EC procedures dictate that all producers, exporters importers and representative associations in the EU, Russia and Poland must complete EC questionnaires by June 17. Sources say the deadline for imposing provisional measures is February 2003.
