Pakistan’s scrap imports up 10.7 percent in July over June

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 152,526 mt in July this year, increasing 10.7 percent compared to June and down 12 percent year on year, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $61.4 million in July, rising 23.3 percent compared to June this year and up 6.1 percent compared to the same month of 2011.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2011-June 2012 period amounted to 1.57 million mt, decreasing 1.1 percent compared to the same period one year earlier. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $538.4 million, rising four percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in July amounted to 101,875 mt, decreasing by 16.9 percent on year-on-year basis and down 43.9 percent compared to the previous month. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2011-June 2012 period totaled 1.76 million mt, increasing by 8.15 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $1.4 billion, rising 15.9 percent year on year.
