Pakistan’s iron and steel imports up 18.5 percent in February

Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports amounted to 113,110 mt in February this year, increasing 0.35 percent compared to February last year and down 9.8 percent month on month, according to data released by the Pakistan Federal Bureau of Statistics (PFBS). The value of the iron and steel scrap imports was $43.5 million in February, rising six percent compared to the same month of 2012 and down 20 percent compared to January.

Pakistan's scrap imports in the July 2012-February 2013 period amounted to 1.15 million mt, rising 5.2 percent on year-on-year basis. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel scrap imports was $445 million, rising 18 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's iron and steel imports in February amounted to 175,144 mt, increasing by 18.5 percent on year-on-year basis and down 7.8 percent compared to the previous month, with a value of $145 million, rising 41 percent over February 2012. The country's iron and steel imports in the July 2012-February 2013 period totaled 1.26 million mt, increasing 11.2 percent year on year. In the period in question, the value of Pakistan's iron and steel imports was $988 million, rising 11.9 percent year on year.
