The Pakistani government's Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has lately announced that it has decided to impose a 15 percent import duty on steel billets, steel bars and wire rods, and a five percent import duty on cold rolled coils and galvanized sheets.

The ECC said that the imposition of import duties aims at giving a boost to the local industry and curb dumping. Local manufacturers have long been demanding tariff protection and the imposition of regulatory duties.
