The world's leading stainless steel producer Finland-based Outokumpu announced on May 26 that it has received the first ISSF Sustainability Award from The International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF). The recognition was based on Outokumpu's determined actions and great achievements in reducing waste to landfill and increasing material efficiency in Sheffield such as re-using slag in the production of asphalt and using waste refractory material as a substitute for limestone in the stainless steel production process.

SteelOrbis has also lately reported the commissioning by Outokumpu of its state-of-the-art acid regeneration plant in Avesta, Sweden, aimed at reducing the nitrate emissions to the river Dalälven to one third of previous levels.
