On April 23, Novgorod-based Russian steel pipe producer Vyksa Steel Works, a subsidiary of Russian steel and pipe producer United Metallurgical Company (OMK), completed its shipments of large diameter pipes on schedule for the construction of the second stage of the Nord Stream international gas pipeline.
The contract for the production of pipes for the first stage of the Nord Stream gas pipeline was agreed in November 2007. Within its framework, Vyksa Steel Works produced more than 260,000 mt of pipes of 1,220 mm diameter and with wall thicknesses of 30.9 mm, 34.6 mm and 41 mm of steel grade SAWL 485 IFD (X70). For the second stage of the pipeline, Vyksa produced about 200,000 mt of large diameter pipes.
In March this year, Vyksa Steel Works produced 150,000 mt of pipes of various specifications, including 90,000 mt of large diameter pipes. In Q1, Vyksa produced 446,000 mt of pipes, including 274,000 mt of large diameter pipes.
