India’s Geetarani Mohanty Raikela Iron Ore Mines, which operated mines in eastern state of Odisha has commenced experimenting use of geotextiles to strengthen mine sidewalls and other areas,  a statement of Kerala State Coir Corporation and supplier of coir geotextiles said on Thursday, June 29.

The use of coir based geotextiles in Geetarani has been taken up on a pilot project basis and once successful, initiatives would be taken to spread its usage across all other iron ore mines in the state, the statement said.

The use of geotextiles to strengthen mine sidewalls and other geologically sensitive areas enables mining and extraction over larger areas within the lease hold and thereby boosts total potential output.
