Australia-based miner Northern Iron has announced that its Norwegian subsidiary Sydvaranger Gruve (SVG) has signed an agreement with Indian steel giant Tata Steel to increase its sales volume during the current contract year.

Accordingly, SVG will sell 1.77 million wet tons of iron ore concentrate to Tata Steel, up 275,000 wet tons compared to the previously agreed amount. The additional volumes will be used for sintering purposes in Tata Steel's European operations. If the sintering trial proves successful, it potentially gives SVG access to the large European market for sinter fines.
