On November 18, Tangshan City, Hebei Province-based Chinese steelmaker Nanchen Longtai Iron and Steel Co. Ltd. announced that its silicon steel project is now under construction. Lu Yonghui, factory director of the company said that the construction of the project is scheduled to complete by May 2011 and then to start the trial-production at the end of 2011.
Nanchen Longtai Steel plans to invest RMB 800 million ($120 million) jointly with Hongkong-based Southern Goods Group in the silicon steel project to build a cold rolled silicon steel production line with an annual production capacity of 700,000 mt and an aluzinc production line.
The construction of the project has started on September 1 and an investment of RMB 95 million ($14.3 million) has been made already. The project is expected to be officialy commissioned in October 2011.
