Montana-based metals recycling firm Pacific Steel Partners LLC plans to buy a 42-acre tract in the Port of Tacoma's Frederickson Industrial Development District in order to develop a new steel recycling center to prepare metals for export, creating new rail traffic for Tacoma Rail and bringing in new container business for the port.

The nine-acre Fredrickson tract is currently leased to a Seattle, Washington-based freight handling firm MacMillan-Piper, however the Port of Tacoma Commission unanimously approved leasing the land to Pacific Steel on Thursday. The sale is expected to be completed within 60 days.
