Two Chinese mining companies Hebei Iron and Steel Mining Co., and Beijing Shougang Mining Investment Co. are to jointly build a model iron ore production base in China's Hebei Province, according to local newspaper Guangming Daily.
The construction of the new base is expected to be completed by the end of 2015. It will become the largest mining base in China and Asia. After being put into production, the base is expected to carry out six major iron ore mining programs located in three local areas, i.e., Tangshan, Qinhuangdao and Chengde.
As reported in early August this year, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the second phase of the Sijiaying mining project of Hebei Iron and Steel Mining Company. The project is located in Xiangtang in the county of Luan in Hebei Province. By opencast mining, 15 million metric tons of iron ore can be mined each year, producing 4.86 million metric tons of iron concentrate of 66 percent Fe grade each year.
