The Russian steel producer Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works (MMK) has announced that it is carrying out the overhaul of its fourth coke oven battery. The loading of the battery with charge and the outputting of the first coke after repairs are planned for early April 2010.

The coke oven battery No.4 was put into operation during World War II. The battery produced its first coke in June 30, 1942. During the war, four coke batteries were built at MMK. Coke oven battery No. 4 has been reconstructed twice, in 1970 when it became heavy-load, and in 1984 when its production capacity was increased to 594,000 mt.

In late November 2009 MMK successfully completed the overhaul of its third coke oven battery, which is planned to reach its maximum capacity by July this year.
