Mittal increases stake in S. African plant

Mittal Steel Company NV bought nine million shares in Mittal Steel South Africa, increasing the group's stake in the African company to 52 percent from 50 percent. Mittal paid Rand 460.89 million ($72.5 million) for the nine million shares, which had been held by Deutsche Bank. A Mittal spokesperson said that the purchase was a one-time incident and that no further stock purchase was planned. Mittal Steel Company NV has to make a mandatory buy out offer to Mittal Steel SA minority share owners if its stake exceeds 60 percent.
