S. African iron and steel output up 21.4 percent in August

According to the preliminary data released by Statistics South Africa, in August this year the country's manufacturing output grew by three percent compared to the same month of 2011, while the seasonally adjusted manufacturing production is estimated to have increased also by three percent compared to July.

In South Africa, the seasonally adjusted production of basic iron and steel products in August increased by 7.8 percent compared to July, while the actual production index of basic iron and steel products saw an increase of 21.4 percent year on year.

For basic iron and steel products, the estimated seasonally adjusted sales of manufactured products (at current prices) in August this year increased by 0.8 percent compared to July, amounting to ZAR 7.65 billion ($878 million).
