Mill shipments in US down 1.3 percent in June

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported Monday that for the month of June 2014, US steel mills shipped 8,291,823 net tons, a 1.3 percent decrease from the 8,398,976 net tons shipped in the previous month, May 2014, and a 6.2 percent increase from the 7,806,319 net tons shipped in June 2013. Shipments year-to-date in 2014 are 48,777,146 net tons, a 2.9 percent increase vs. 2013 shipments of 47,401,474 net tons for six months.

A comparison of June shipments to the previous month of May shows the following changes: hot dipped galvanized sheets and strip, up 0.1 percent, hot rolled sheet, down 2 percent and cold rolled sheet, down 4 percent.
