Deacero’s Ramos mill in Arizpe, Mexico, has commenced rebar production following the installation of a Danieli automation system. According to supplier Danieli, Deacero’s Ramos mill is already producing 9.5 mm rebar or “rebar 3” with a 5-strand slitting technology at 13 meters/sec. Rebar 4 grade uses four strands, while rebar 5 and rebar 6 are produced in two strands.

Other rebar grades, including the company’s rebar 16, is produced in a single strand at a productivity of 120 tons per hour. The mill also produces smooth rounds and squares, angles, channels, flats, as well as T-profiles.

Danieli said productivity rose 46 percent, “changing from 3 to 5 strand slitting process at 13 m/s,” and a transformation reduction cost was also reported, with over 10 percent lower gas consumption and 30 percent lower electrical consumption per ton.
