Mexico’s AHMSA invests MXN 67 million in equipment maintenance

Mexican integrated steelmaker Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) and partnering companies have started a MXN 67 million ($3.63 million) maintenance program at the steelmaker, according to a media report.

The maintenance program will last 10 days and include the company’s blast furnaces No. 5 and No. 6, furnace Olla 1, converter No. 2, BOF 2 as well as continuous caster No. 2.

At AHMSA’s blast furnace No. 5, main works include both mechanic and electric maintenance as well as instrumentation of the equipment’s charging systems sections, hot blast stoves, coal injection, hoppers facility, refractories reposition, among other repairs.

As for the blast furnace No. 6, AHMSA will perform repair works at its hoppers facility, cooling tower, coal injection, among other systems.

AHMSA will also substitute parts at its Converter No. 2, so it can prepare it for its next cycle of activities. Furnace Olla 1 and continuous caster No. 2 should also pass through reconditioning tasks.

According to a media report, AHMSA’s maintenance program should generate some 1,800 direct jobs and will involve a number of companies, including Electronica Industrial Monclova, Seima, ATI, Hot Work, Marinsa, Masin, Cramsa, GM Construcciones, Cemetsa, Pemsa, Ociem, Sinergia, Majoma, Coel del Norte, Proconect, Sigma Ingenieria, Tramisa, Constructora Calera, Crisa, GMC, Rovi, Cotensa and Bensa.
