Apparent consumption of wire rod in Mexico totaled 214,000 metric tons (mt) in February, 4.5 percent less than the same month last year, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.
Production decreased 9.6 percent to 217,000 mt in February. That volume represented approximately 7.8 mt per day. Wire rod exports decreased 62.9 percent to 13,000 mt.
Information from the Ministry of Economy shows that the wire rod market in Mexico is dominated by DeAcero with 51 percent of the total production capacity in the country, Ternium has 18 percent, ArcelorMittal 16 percent, the steel company TA 2000 (Tyasa) has 6 percent, Grupo Acerero 5 percent and Simec (through Acero DM) 4 percent.
