Mexican CRC consumption falls 11.8 percent in March

Apparent consumption of cold rolled coils (CRC) in Mexico decreased 11.8 percent, year-over-year, in March to 353,000 metric tons (mt), while production decreased 15.6 percent to 266,000 mt in the same period, according to data from the Mexican Chamber of the Iron and Steel Industry (Canacero) reviewed by SteelOrbis.

In the international market, the commercial flow of the CRC decreased 17.6 percent, totaling 126,000 mt in March. Exports decreased 41.2 percent or 14,000 mt, totaling 20,000 mt sold outside the Mexican borders. Imports decreased 10.9 percent or 13,000 mt to total 106,000 mt.

In international trade, for every ton of CRC exported from Mexico, in March, 5.3 tons were imported and for every 100 tons of CRC consumed in Mexico, production contributed 75.4 percent.

According to the most recent report from Canacero, in Mexico the only CRC producers are AHMSA, Ternium and TA 2000 (TYASA).
