Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steelmaking companies, has announced that smelting production has been temporarily halted at two of its Romanian plants because of severe weather conditions.
Smelting workshops at Mechel Targoviste and Ductil Steel Otelu Rosu were temporarily halted as of February 18 due to difficulties in supplying scrap and other raw materials to be used in the production process.
According to Mechel's statement, the plants used up their winter stocks in the past few days as transport in Romania was negatively affected by the harsh weather. Shipments are expected to resume shortly.
