Mechel, one of the leading Russian mining and steel groups, has issued its production data for the first half of 2008.
Accordingly, during the given period the company saw a 58 percent increase in its coal production to 14.033 million mt (including a 100 percent increase in its coking coal production to 8.444 million mt), an eight percent increase in its nickel production to 91,000 mt, a four percent increase in its iron ore concentrate production to 2.470 million metric tons but a five percent decrease in its coke production to 1.838 million mt compared with the same period last year.
In its steel segment, Mechel saw a one percent decrease in its pig iron production, a three percent increase in its crude steel production and a two percent rise in its finished steel products output (including a two percent increase in flats output, a 34 percent increase in longs output, and a 30 percent decrease in semis production) year on year in the first half of 2008. The respective figures in mt were 1.853 million, 3.061 million, and 2.856 million (including 230,000 of flats, 1.792 million of longs and 897,000 of semis).
