Macarthur’s Q4 output and shipments drop due to Queensland floods

Queensland, Australia-based low-volatile metallurgical coal producer Macarthur Coal Limited has announced its quarterly report for the quarter ended December 31 and for the whole year of 2010.

Macarthur said that unseasonal heavy rain during November and December 2010 impacted production necessitating force majeure being declared with customers on December 3, 2010. Sales totaled 1.14 million mt in the three months ended December 31, decreasing 20 percent year on year. Sales of 2.4 million mt in 2010 were 13.5 percent lower year on year.

Macarthur's saleable coal production totaled 966,500 mt in the quarter in question, decreasing by 24 percent over the same period of the previous year. The production of 2.27 million mt in the twelve months ended December 31 were 12.4 percent less than in 2009.
