Maanshan Iron and Steel increases H section production

Chinese steel producer Maanshan Iron and Steel will reportedly commence operation of H section line which will produce materials in the size of 100-400 mm in March 2005. The company currently operates a H section line which produces materials in the size of 200-800 mm. The new line has production capacity of 600'000 tons. When it merges with the current line, the production will reach 1.6 million tons per annum. Maanshan officials stated that producing H sections in various sizes will increase their sales. The company produces 1.5 million tons of steel sheet, 900'000 tons of steel plate, 1.2 million tons of wire rod and 1.5 million tons of rebar. Maanshan also plans to increase sheet production to 2 million tons in 2005.
