Latin America’s crude steel output rises 1 percent in October

Latin America’s crude steel production in October rose 1 percent, year-on-year, to 5.6 million mt, the region’s steel association, Alacero, said late this week. The region’s production of finished steel in October was 4.6 million mt, 1 percent up, year-on-year.

As for the accumulated period of January to October, the region’s crude steel output was 54.8 million mt, 3 percent up, year-on-year, Alacero said, adding Brazil was the top producer with 29.3 million mt.

Brazil’s share in the region’s total crude steel production in the January-October period rose 3 percent, year-on-year.

Latin America’s finished steel output in the January-October period was 45.4 million mt, 3 percent up, year-on-year. Top finished steel producers for the 10-month period include Brazil with 19.5 million mt, and Mexico with 16.1 million mt.

Alacero said flats accounted for 49 percent or 22.1 million mt of Latin America’s total finished steel production of 45.4 million mt for the accumulated period of January to October. Long steel products accounted for 48 percent or 21.9 million mt, while seamless steel pipes corresponded to the remaining 3 percent or 1.4 million mt.
