Kyrgyzstan extends ferrous scrap export ban for another six months

The Kyrgyz government has extended its temporary ban on exports of ferrous metal scrap and waste, as well as ferrous remelting scrap ingots, for another six months, according to local media reports.

The resolution will enter into force 10 days after its official publication, while the export restriction itself will start to apply three days after the resolution enters into force and will remain in place for six months.

At the same time, the government will repeal Resolution No. 117 dated February 18, 2026, which introduced the previous temporary restriction on exports of ferrous scrap and remelting ingots. Accordingly, the new decision effectively extends the existing restriction for another six-month period.

Government aims to secure scrap supplies for domestic processors

The restriction is intended to maintain the availability of ferrous scrap for Kyrgyzstan's domestic metal processing industry. The country has five major enterprises with their own foundry operations, namely Metall-Ken, Asia Steel, MPZ Frunze, Lahore Steel Mills and Vulkan Plus, with combined processing capacity of approximately 490,000 mt per year.
