Kazakhstan-based steelmaker Qarmet has announced that it has entered the construction phase of its new rolling mill project following the installation of the first metal support structure at the Temirtau site.
According to the company, the project will significantly expand its portfolio of high-value-added steel products and strengthen its downstream processing capabilities.
New mill to produce high-strength construction steel
The new rolling complex is designed to have an annual production capacity of 540,000 mt. The facility will manufacture high-strength A600 and A1000 grade rebar, in addition to other steel products including angles and channels for both domestic and export markets. Qarmet stated that the investment forms part of its long-term strategy focused on technological modernization, improved production efficiency, and higher-value steel production.
The rolling mill is one of several major modernization projects currently underway at the Temirtau steelworks. Other ongoing investments include the construction of coke oven batteries No. 8 and 9, the launch of a new hot dip galvanizing and polymer coating line, and development of a modern casting and rolling complex.
Focus on value-added steel products
Through these projects, Qarmet aims to strengthen its position in construction steel markets while expanding its range of value-added steel products.
The company also seeks to improve operational efficiency and upgrade the technological capabilities of its Temirtau production facilities as part of its broader modernization strategy.
