Capesize (Atlantic and Pacific)

Capesize market finally showed stronger signs. There was flurry of activity in Pacific with all the three majors out in market to take tonnage. Rates for West Australia/China went up and settled the week closed to $8/MT. From Saldanha Bay to Qingdao was reported a fixture at an higher $13.40. As usual the Atlantic basin was the side of the market more pushy. Itaguai to Qingdao was fixed at $20.25 while Atlantic round stood in the region of $9. There was some renewed interest as well for period market.

Panamax (Atlantic and Pacific)

The market turned firmer during last week. Transatlantic business was talked between $11,000/ 12,000 daily for 2 laden legs, this was a great improvement compared to last week. Trip to Far East from North Pacific was again at around $20,000 daily level. Since there were many units ballasting from Far East, rates for South American grains were a bit lower than in North Atlantic at around $12,500+$400,000bb aps delivery passing Cape of Good Hope or around $10,500 dely passing Singapore. Influenced by South American grains, early candidates in South China were very limited, this improved the rates for Pacific Round up to $8,5/9,000 at the end of the week. Other than NoPac and Eastern Australia business, talked at $8,000 levels, more and more candidates in North Pacific now prefer to ballast to US Gulf looking for grain biz and waiting to get a better rate later. Short period was also talked higher at around $9,000 daily for 3/5mos.

Handy (Far East/Pacific)

Market in the Pacific basin was stable with rates for Supramaxes at around $10/12,000 level basis delivery SE Asia/S. China range for timecharter trip via Indonesia to India with coal. D'Amico was linked with the 2010-built 55,073 dwt Coral Gem for July 05-06 delivery Belawan for a trip via Indonesia, redelivery full India at $12,000 daily. Also the Green Phoenix has gone to an undisclosed charterer for spot delivery Hong Kong on a trip via Indonesia with redelivery full India at $10,000 daily. While NoPac RV for modern Supramaxes basis dely N China/S Korea range was around $7/8,000 level depending on vessels' specs.

Handy (North Europe/Mediterranean)

No fixture reported during last week in Continent/Black Sea area. There was a rumour in the market that m/v Yangtze Eternal 32,500 dwt was fixed on sub on Friday by Mur for couple of laden legs with redel Atlantic basis dop Gdansk at $11,500 per day - which is still to be confirmed.

Handy (USA/N.Atlantic/Lakes/S.America)

Market in ECSA was pretty firm for Supramaxes with rates at around $22/23,000 per day basis delivery Gibraltar/West Africa for trip via ECSA to Spore/Jpn range and $19,000 basis dely South Africa. Rates in NCSA/US Gulf market were firm as well showing good numbers. For example was reported that Pacific Basin fixed the Eilhard Schulte, 49,000dwt bss dely NCSA for trip in to Chile with coal at around $28,000. Also Supramax has been reported to been fixed Around $19,500 bss dop NCSA for 2/3 laden legs and redelivery Atlantic.

Handy (Indian Ocean/South Africa)

Just one fixture has been reported for South Africa/Indian Ocean area showing softer rates.
