JSW Steel orders continuous caster from SMS Demag

Indian steelmaker Jindal South West Steel Ltd (JSW) has ordered a single strand continuous slab caster for its Toranagallu works in Karnataka from Germany's SMS Demag. The slab caster, which will be designed to have an annual production capacity of 1.8 million mts, is scheduled to be operational in early 2008. The slab caster will produce slabs with a thickness of 220 mm, with options for 260 mm and 300 mm thickness as well. JSW will be able to cast micro-alloyed and HSLA (high-strength low-alloy) steels in the caster.
