John Surma replaces Nucor’s DiMicco as AISI Chairman

During the American Iron and Steel Institute's (AISI) Board of Directors meeting on November 10, US Steel Chairman and CEO John Surma was elected as the new Chairman of the AISI, according to a press release Monday. Surma succeeds Daniel R. DiMicco, Chairman and CEO of Nucor Corporation, who served as the AISI's Chairman the past 18 months. Surma also served as AISI Chairman from 2005 to 2006.

As AISI's immediate past chairman, DiMicco will now serve as a Vice Chairman of the institute. Other elected Vice Chairmen include Joseph, A. Carrabba, Chairman, President and CEO of Cliffs Natural Resources and Regulo Salinas, Vice President of Ternium Mexico. Three new AISI Directors were approved at the meeting, including:  Guilherme Johannpeter, President, Gerdau Long Steel North America; Michael G. Rippey, President and CEO, ArcelorMittal USA; and Charles Schmitt, President, SSAB Americas.
