Japanese steelmaker JFE Steel Corporation has announced that, together with Marubeni-Itochu Steel Inc., it has won a contract to supply 2,200 metric tons of line pipes to Statoil Petroleum AS, the Norwegian oil and gas company.
The line pipes include 1,400 metric tons of electric-resistance-welded (ERW) steel pipes and 800 metric tons of 13 percent chromium stainless seamless pipes. The pipes were shipped to Statoil's Gullfaks Rimfaksdalen Project in June this year.
Compared to conventional products, JFE Steel's ERW pipes offer dramatically robust weld toughness that remains effective even at temperatures below -50°C, while the company's 13 percent chromium seamless pipe offers strong resistance to CO2 corrosion.
