Japan’s scrap exports reach 7.22 million mt for 2018

According to preliminary customs data, Japan’s ferrous scrap exports reached 7.22 million mt, down 10 percent from the 8.05 million mt of ferrous scrap the country exported in 2017. Japan exported 0.68 million mt in December.

During the 12-month period, Japan exported 3.96 million mt (55 percent) to South Korea, 1.57 million mt (22 percent) to Vietnam, 1.05 million mt (15 percent) to China, 0.42 million mt (6 percent) to Taiwan, 0.08 million (1 percent) to Bangladesh, 0.06 million mt (1 percent) to Indonesia, and 0.08 (1 percent) to other destinations.
