According to the statistics released by the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the whole year of 2010
Italy's steel imports from countries outside the European Union (EU) reached 7.77 million metric tons, increasing by 35.2 percent, while its steel exports excluding EU destinations totaled 4.8 million metric tons, up 3.5 percent, both compared to the previous year.
In the year in question,
Italy's semi-finished steel product imports from non-EU member states reached 3.11 million metric tons, up 39.8 percent year on year. Meanwhile, the country's semi-finished steel product exports to non-EU countries amounted to 373,000 metric tons, down 1.3 percent year on year.
Italy's imports of long steel products from non-EU countries in 2010 increased by 18.2 percent to 525,000 metric tons, while its long steel product exports to these countries in the year in question totaled 1.28 million metric tons, down 12.9 percent, both compared to 2009.
On the other hand, during the given period,
Italy's flat steel imports from non-EU countries reached 3.73 million metric tons, up 39 percent year on year, while its flat steel product exports to non-EU countries amounted to 1.83 million metric tons, with a year-on-year increase of 20 percent.
