Italy’s long steel output falls 8.9 percent in 2012

Italy’s long steel output amounted to 733,000 mt in December last year, up 0.4 percent year on year, according to the latest figures provided by Italian steel producers association Federacciai. This slight increase came after 13 consecutive months of decrease on year-on-year basis.
 
In 2012, overall Italian long steel production fell by 8.9 percent or about 1.15 million metric tons compared to 2011, with an output of 11.740 million metric tons. The country’s long steel production in 2012 was down about 3.5 percent from the 2010 volume.
 
Coming towards the end of last year, the year-on-year decrease rate in Italian long steel output fell from 16.4 percent in September to 11.8 percent in October and 5.1 percent in November, while switching to a positive variation in December.
