Italy’s construction output rises in October but remains low

According to the preliminary figures issued by Italy's national statistics office Istat, in October this year the Italian seasonally adjusted construction output index rose by 1.9 month on month after having fallen 7.7 percent in September compared to August. The average index for the August-October quarter decreased by 1.3 percent compared to the previous quarter.

In October, Italy's seasonally adjusted construction output index reading was the second worst of all time (76.4) after the new all-time low of 75 points in September. In the last nine months, the 80-point threshold (base 2005=100) has been exceed only twice - in March and August.

In October this year, the calendar adjusted index of production in Italian construction declined by 12.1 percent compared with October 2011, while in the first 10 months of the year the index went down by 13.8 percent compared with the same period of 2011.
