EU-28 construction output up 5.5 percent in February

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in February this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.1 percent as compared to January and was up 5.5 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In January, production had increased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in February of the current year grew 0.1 percent month on month, while increasing by 6.7 percent compared to February 2013. In January, production had increased by 1.6 percent in the euro area compared to December, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in February decreased by 0.4 percent month on month and increased by 5.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by one percent from January and was up 3.9 percent year on year.

As compared to January construction output in February increased in Poland by 17.4 percent, in Hungary by 8.2 percent and in Spain by 3.0 percent, while a decrease of 4.9 percent was registered in Slovenia, a decline of 3.7 percent was recorded in Italy and a decrease of 2.8 percent was seen in the UK.

As compared to February 2013, construction output in February of the current year increased in Slovenia by 33.1 percent, in Hungary by 28.3 percent, in Spain by 23.9 percent, in Poland by 14.4 percent and in Germany by 14.1 percent, while a decrease of 14.7 percent was registered in Romania, a decline of 11.5 percent was recorded in Portugal and a decline of 7.9 percent was witnessed in Italy.
