EU-28 construction output up 0.6 percent in Apr over Mar

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in April this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.6 percent as compared to March and was up 7.2 percent compared to the same month of 2013. In March, production had decreased by 0.2 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in April of the current year increased by 0.8 percent month on month, while increasing by eight percent compared to April 2013. In March, production had decreased by 0.3 percent in the euro area compared to February, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in April increased by 0.9 percent month on month and increased by 8.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 0.8 percent from March and was up 1.7 percent year on year.

As compared to March, construction output in April increased in Slovenia by 6.7 percent, in Spain by 4.8 percent and in Portugal by 4.5 percent, while a decrease of 5.4 percent was registered in Poland, a decline of 4.7 percent was recorded in Romania and a decrease of two percent was seen in Slovakia.

As compared to April 2013, construction output in April of the current year increased in Spain by 53.4 percent, in Slovenia by 48.8 percent, in Hungary by 27.2 percent and in Poland by 13.3 percent, while a decrease of nine percent was registered in Portugal, a decline of 6.8 percent was recorded in Romania, a decline of 5.1 percent was seen in Slovakia, and a decline of five percent was witnessed in Italy
