According to Italy's national association of foreign carmakers UNRAE, in the second half of the current year the Italian auto market will continue the same unimpressive performance seen in Q1. UNRAE estimates that the total registrations in Italy in 2011 will be around 1.8 million units, decreasing by 7.8 percent year on year.
Preliminary figures, as stated by UNRAE, show that the trend of new car registrations in Italy has worsened further in July. Also in August and September the market will remain at depressed levels, though some improvement may be seen in the fourth quarter with a one percent increase to 422,000 units compared to Q4 2010.
According to UNRAE president Gianni Filippini, "Clearly the loss of about 150,000 total new registrations forecasted for 2011 could be avoided if the recent measures adopted by the Italian government are followed by provisions for the economic growth of the country."
