According to the Italian
automotive industry association (Anfia),
Italy's new car registrations amounted to 56,447 units in August, down 20.2 percent year on year. In the first eight months of 2012, new car registrations in
Italy totaled 981,030 units, down 19.9 percent year-on-year.
Regarding the decrease in new car registrations in August, Anfia president Roberto Vavassori stated, "This is the ninth consecutive double digit year-on-year decrease, bringing the Italian market back to similar levels to 1964 for the month. The reasons behind the August decrease are the seasonal factor, oil price growth and the uncertainty surrounding the future of the euro area." He went on to state, "In order to exit this the current negative trend, the government must adopt an
automotive-oriented industrial policy."
