Italy's economic development minister Corrado Passera has announced during a conference on transportation issues that the restart of infrastructure construction is at the very top of the Italian government's agenda.

"During the last two sessions of the [Italy's] Interministerial Committee for Economic Planning (CIPE), we unlocked works worth €20 billion. Otherwise, some of those funds would have been lost, such as the EU-allocated ones," stated the minister. He continued, "Now we are set to restart works related to motorways and airports amounting to another €20 billion, and other priority public works have been identified worth the same figure. When we talk about works worth €40-60 billion, we are talking about several GDP percentage points."
