Italian crude steel output collapses in April

After the strong decrease recorded in March this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Italian crude steel production fell further in April. According to the latest data released by Federacciai, the Italian steel producers' association, Italian steelmakers produced only 1.121 million mt of crude steel in April this year, recording a 42.5 percent decrease compared to April 2019.

In the January-April period, Italian crude steel output amounted to 6.403 million mt, down 22.4 percent compared to the same period last year.

As regards the flat and long product categories, Italian production in the first four months of the year amounted to 3.291 million mt and 3.187 million mt, down 19.5 percent and 25.0 percent year on year, respectively.

In the month of April alone, flat steel production fell by 38.3 percent to 621,000 mt, while long steel production collapsed by 45.6 percent to 555,000 mt, both year on year.
