Italian auto market still fails to impress

In June this year, the Italian auto market saw 168,832 new registrations, down 1.7 percent year on year. In H1 of the current year, total new registrations amounted to 1,012,849, posting a 13.1 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2010, which is the worst performance for this period since 1996.

In June, Italian carmaker Fiat recorded about 50,200 new registrations, down 3.6 percent year on year. Fiat's local market share for the month amounted to 29.8 percent, down 0.6 percentage points. In H1 2011, Fiat's new registrations in the Italian automobile market amounted to 296,000 units, falling by 17.8 percent compared to H1 2010.
