Isdemir begins trial production for flat products

Turkish mill, Iskenderun Demir and Celik A.S (Isdemir), began trial production on November 2 at its slab casting mill with has an annual capacity of 2.5 million ton – as part of the first phase of its flat rolled production plans. Equipment manufacture and construction work are continuing for the company's second slab casting mill, which will have the same capacity. With the output of the new slab casting mills, which is to be rolled in the flat rolling mill to be set up in Isdemir, the company will be able to produce flat rolled sheets of up to 2.050 mm in thickness. After the $2 billion-investment, the current annual steel production of 2.2 million tons may be increased to 5.25 million tons. The 3.5 million ton-capacity hot rolling mill – the agreement for which was signed on 30.05.2005 and on which work is continuing - will be completed in 2008.
