Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes down 7.5 percent in October

Shipments of iron ore on the Great Lakes totaled 5.3 million tons in October, a decrease of 7.5 percent compared to a year ago, according to a report today from the Lake Carriers’ Association. Shipments were nearly equal to the month’s 5-year average.

Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 43.9 million tons, a decrease of 1.7 percent compared to the same point in 2018.

Through October iron ore loadings are 4.2 percent ahead of their 5-year average for the January-October timeframe.
