Iron ore inventory at main Chinese ports falls for fourth straight week

According to the official statistics, as of April 6 this year the aggregate iron ore inventory at 30 major ports in China totaled 96.63 million mt, declining by 1.39 million mt week on week and constituting a fourth consecutive week-on-week decrease. 96.63 million mt is also the second lowest level recorded in the current year, after 96.61 million mt observed in early January. 

During the week ending April 6, while iron ore inventory at the majority of ports remained unchanged, ports such as Tianjin, Caofeidian, Lianyungang, Zhenjiang and Zhanjiang saw a total decrease of 1.4 million mt week on week in iron ore inventories. On the other hand, Jingtang Port and Rizhao Port recorded a week-on-week increase of 450,000 mt and 200,000 mt in their inventories of iron ore.

In the period in question, Australian iron ore imports declined by 1.46 million mt from the previous week, while deliveries from India and Brazil for China declined by 630,000 mt in total.
