Iron ore imports at Jiangyin port down 30 percent in Jan-Apr

In the first four months of this year, iron ore imports at the port of Jiangyin in China's eastern province of Jiangsu totaled 1.39 million mt, down 30 percent year on year, while the aggregate value of iron ore imports during the given period was $203 million, unchanged from the corresponding period of last year - according to Chinese newspaper Securities Times.

In the early months of 2011, prices in the Chinese iron ore import market stayed at high levels but without attracting any great interest from buyers. This contributed to China's reduced volume of iron ore imports in the January-April period.
