Iron ore exports from Australia’s Port Hedland up 16.8% in Aug over July

In August this year, iron ore shipments from Australia's Port Hedland increased by 16.8 percent compared to July. The port's iron ore shipments in August totaled 22.8 million metric tons, up by 12.7 percent year on year.

According to the information released by Port Hedland Port Authority, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to China amounted to 16.7 million metric tons in August, increasing by 11.9 percent compared to July and up 16.9 percent year on year. South Korea was the second largest export destination for iron ore shipments from Port Hedland in August, with shipments totaling 2.7 million metric tons, rising by 2.3 percent year on year and up 75.5 percent compared to the previous month. Meanwhile, iron ore shipments made from Port Hedland to Japan amounted to 2.4 million metric tons in August, increasing by 10.8 percent compared to July this year and down 2.7 percent year on year.

Port Hedland handles production from mines owned by BHP Billiton, Atlas Iron and Fortescue Metals Group in the iron ore-rich Pilbara region of Western Australia.
