China’s National Land and Resource Administration Bureau has announced that geophysical exploration has been carried out on iron ore deposits in the region of Luoji, city of Bozhou, Anhui Province, China. The exploration in question covers an area of 270 square kilometers. Currently, the geophysical side of the exploration project has almost been concluded, while the drilling phase has commenced.
Anhui Province is a key area for iron and steel production in China, and is also rich in iron ore resources. The province had 4 billion mt of proven iron ore reserves, before a new round of iron ore exploration began in 2008. In the two years since 2008, the province has invested approximately RMB 300 million ($45.3 million) in exploration of iron ore, adding 1.15 billion mt of new proven iron ore reserves.
