Iran to increase steel production, export

Head of the Iranian Steel Producers Association, Mr. Taghi Bahrami, has announced that Iran is targeting the production of more than 13 million metric tons of finished steel in the newly-started Iranian year 1386 (21.03.2007-20.03.2008). Mr. Bahrami went on to add that in the past Iranian year 1385, the country produced 11.2 million metric tons of finished steel, 9.2 million metric tons of which was produced by the state-owned sector while the remaining two million metric tons was produced by privately-owned mills.

In addition, the Iranian Mines and Mining Industry Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) have predicted that Iranian steel exports for the current Iranian year will increase to three million metric tons. On the other hand, IMIDRO forecast an increase in domestic steel consumption to 9.7 million metric tons.
